At SRM Europe, our clientele ranges from music to financial services to food retailing to architecture. And, while all these industries are very diverse, there are commonalities; primarily the need to adapt to change. And, as we’ve recently experienced, change happens, regardless of our level of preparedness; never mind if it happens to be something you never dreamed would occur. It is not unusual for an organisation to shy away from change, as they see change as the inverse of stability. It can be if a business doesn’t prepare for it.

It is good to remember what Leon C. Megginson said about the survival of the fittest, “it’s not the strongest that survive, but the most adaptable”. What Can Music Teach Us About Business?

And, during this period of coronavirus-enforced lockdown, I have been consuming more music than I have been able to for years by watching some of the DJ livestreams on YouTube, whilst also honing my now DJ-hobbyist skills at weekends.

To say we live in interesting times would be a huge understatement. Everything we hold dear, from socialising to shopping, and even to how we conduct transactions, is changing before our eyes. We’re in a period of unprecedented change in the way we live our lives and, though the one true constant is change, it has usually been more gradual, sometimes taking decades or even requiring whole generations to effect it. COVID-19 has, however, caused significant – possibly irrevocable – change in a matter of weeks.
